Your Complete Guide to Hiking on Amelia Island

Amelia Island State Park

The Amelia Island Trail runs from Peters Point Beachfront Park to Amelia Island State Park, one of the most convenient trails on the island. This trail is mostly flat and suitable for all ages and skill levels. This trail is part of the East Coast Greenway, a growing initiative to create a trail system from Florida to Maine. Admire the beauty of the tree-lined paths through the maritime forest.

Fort Clinch State Park

You’ll find a 6-mile loop trail in Fort Clinch State Park near Fernandina Beach. The trail is moderate difficultly with some elevation as it takes you along the beautiful marshes of Amelia Island while offering some beach access. You can even take a break to hunt for shells and shark teeth along the coastline. We recommend bringing water and bug spray for this hike.

Little Talbot Island State Park

South of Amelia Island you’ll find Little Talbot Island State Park. One hiking trail you’ll find here is a 4-mile loop rated easy to moderate. As the trail winds towards to coast, you’ll stumble upon a white sand beach. It’s best if you go during low tide to see more of the beach area and driftwood that creates a picturesque backdrop.

Big Talbot Island State Park

The Timucuan Trail in Big Talbot Island State Park is a real treat! The trail is paved until you reach Boneyard Beach, which is scattered with salt-washed live oaks and cedars. Visit the Bluffs to enjoy a picnic at a pavilion overlooking the water. This type of unique beach has become rather famous to the area!
