Asheville Offers a Serene Winter

January, February, and March offer some of the most beautiful and peaceful settings in the mountains. We do get snow here, but often much of the snow falls in the higher elevations (3,000 feet and up), meaning that there is less of the white stuff to interfere with life down in the city. Average temperatures range from the mid 30’s to the 50’s and even low 60’s on some days. Aside from the 30-degree days, it is a great time to go hiking or biking: the leafless trees mean great views of the snow-capped peaks, and there are fewer crowds.

Springtime Blossoms in Asheville

The weather becomes a bit more favorable, with temps varying from the mid 50’s to the mid 70’s mixed with an occasional shower. Spring is also a great time for the nature lover to make a pilgrimage to the North Carolina Arboretum as well as the gardens at Biltmore. A visit to one of our many wineries, cideries and breweries is a must, especially as many have outdoor seating available. There is nothing like sampling a beer flight while sitting outside listening to live music! May historically means the kickoff of “festival season”, but during COVID many festival organizers chose to postpone their events in 2020. If there is a particular festival you are interested in, it is best to check ahead of time with the event organizer.

Summer Is Enjoyable

Watersports – tubing, rafting and the like – are immensely popular during summer, when the thermometer regularly displays temps in the mid- to upper 80s. However, 80 degrees in Asheville is a bit different than 80 degrees in most major cities on the East Coast: the varying elevations and frequent breezes combine to make an 80-degree day much more tolerable in Asheville.

Fall Foliage, Festivals and Food

The star of the show is the Foliage, with peak season varying depending on elevation. Generally, the brightest colors happen between the first of October and early November. The temperatures resemble spring, ranging from the mid-50s to upper 70s. With those temps, it is an ideal time for Festivals, especially those that were cancelled in 2020 but are now raring to go for 2021. And as for Food, many Asheville-area restaurants have upped their game, with expanded outdoor seating and gathering areas to further entice you no matter the time of year.

Since we’ve just celebrated Presidents’ Day, we are going “presidential” here: by Executive Order, we hereby decree that the ideal time to visit Wildberry Lodge is ANYTIME you want!
